Handmade Christmas ornaments - activities for the whole family!

This Christmas, make your ornaments and use sustainable and repurposed materials!

In addition to being a fun activity, it´s a way to reuse materials and create personalized home decorations.

Although at Christmas it´s more likely to spend a bit more, this activity, which can be done as a family, has the advantage of providing a good time, spending very little.

Let’s get to work!

Dehydrated orange could be a great alternative for your Christmas decorations. In addition to being aesthetically appealing, they leave a great aroma in your home.

Materials: orange, cinnamon stick, green branch (rosemary, pine, etc.), and rope.

How to dehydrate the orange, just cut it into slices, place it on a grill and bake it for 2 to 3 hours at 100ºC. After the slices are ready and have cooled down, pass the string between the orange, the cinnamon stick, and the green branch to have your ornament ready.

Alternatives: You can use different dehydrated fruits such as lemon and grapefruit.

Stars cannot be missing from Christmas ornaments, much less at the top of the tree! These are easy to make and can be done with reused materials.

Materials: cardboard, rope, and wool.

How to do: First, cut a piece of card in the shape of a star. Drill a hole at the top of one of the star's arms and thread the string that you are going to hang it from. Then roll the wool around until the card is fully covered.

Alternatives: You can use different kinds of wool, rope, pieces of fiber, or whatever you have at home.

A garland on top of the fireplace makes the space much more welcoming. This holly lasts longer and doesn't sting the little ones.

Materials: Green and white felt sheets, red felt balls, rope, needle, and thread.

How to do: cut the green and white felt in the shape of holly leaves. With the help of the needle and thread, join the leaves and balls in groups of three. Depending on the length you want to give your garland, when you have enough elements, attach them to a string, separating them from each other by equal distances.

Alternatives: You can use pompons, bells, or other decorative pieces to substitute de felt balls.
